The HR Assistant performs various administrative and clerical duties to assist the Human Resources Manager and other staff in operating the Human Resources Department.  This position is located at our plant in Valparaiso, IN.

Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain employee database information; create, update and maintain employee personnel files.
  • Assist with recruitment activities, conduct new employee orientations, and assist in other employment activities.
  • Respond to management and employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs.
  • Respond to outside employment inquiries providing information to authorized persons in accordance with company policies.
  • Assist in processing all job bid transactions and scheduling pre-employment activities.
  • May compute Office Hourly/Salary payroll information and transmit to Payroll Department.
  • Interact with Corporate Human Resources team members regarding inquiries concerning benefit issues.
  • Administer and/or maintain records of various employee activities, such as, but not limited to, attendance/vacation records, employee training, leaves of absence, employee assistance program, and unemployment compensation claims.
  • Prepare reports and written correspondence as directed.
  • Maintain plant telephone directory and organization chart.
  • Strictly maintain employee privacy and departmental confidentiality in all human resource activities.

Qualifications:

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; and three years experience in human resources; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems; proficiency with Microsoft applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • HR experience in a manufacturing plant environment is a plus.
