UGN, a world class manufacturer of acoustic, interior trim, and thermal management products for the Japanese transplant automotive industry in North America, is seeking a Corporate Controller to join our team in Tinley Park, Illinois.

Summary

The Corporate Controller has direct responsibility for cash management, accounting functions, reporting to shareholders and executives, statutory reporting, internal/external audits, and consolidations for UGN’s manufacturing facilities and corporate center.   The Corporate Controller reports to the CFO.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Fixed Asset Reporting and Control, Cost Accounting, Internal and External Financial Reporting (GAAP), Budgeting, Forecasting, Financial controls, IMMEX (Mexico Operations), Tax and Audit.
  • Responsible for completion of governmental compliance reporting, both monthly and annually.
  • Responsible for holding financial integrity of all aspects of UGN financial systems and reporting.
  • Ensure revenue is appropriately recognized and documented.
  • Oversee the development of SOX’s type internal controls and processes.
  • Perform corporate consolidation; and develop and document accounting procedures and controls for financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Familiarly with manufacturing cost accounting and standard cost developing.
  • Provide management with financial reports and make recommendations to CFO and executive staff on needed financial actions.
  • Partner with the different constituencies in the operational environment including Operational Controller, Plant Controllers, Program Management, Operation Managers, Purchasing, IS/IT, Engineering and Sales to provide financial data that is needed to drive value added projects and cross functional collaboration.
  • Ensure healthy cash flow through driving net working capital and monitoring net liquidity. Lead both expedited collection of AR and managed AP processing.  Optimize cash flow through effective management of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
  • Lead tax compliance and planning. Ensure timely filing of all statutory tax filings etc via third-party providers. Strive to ensure that Effective Tax Rate is at most optimal levels.
  • Assist team in developing efficiencies across departments to expedite financial reporting timelines and continue to added value added tools to be shared with the rest of the organization to drive sales and profit enhancement.
  • Ensure monthly review and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and lead preparation of monthly consolidation, and review and approval of general ledger journal entries.
  • Identify and execute improvements to existing processes and procedures. Challenge the organization to success.
  • Overall financial reporting lead (monthly, quarterly and annually) to shareholders, internally and statutory reporting.
  • Responsible for Planning and Strategic Plan development.  Act as a leader in annual financial plan and the budgeting process at both the corporate and plant level; also ensure that this plan is consistent with internal Executive Directives.
  • Thoughtful analysis of all cost elements expected on a monthly basis. This analysis is required to drive cost and profit improvement actions. Focus needs to always be on how finance can support business growth and profitability. Integration within the organization is critical to position success.
  • Develop and execute tools and analytics to drive effective business decisions, using information and data from other groups including Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Engineering etc.  Review costs versus plans and trends to understand key business drivers and help develop plans for improvement. Develop and track key performance indicators.
  • Solid knowledge of Fixed Asset controls and reporting is a key responsibility.
  • Act as a “Business Manager” to peers, as well as the key support to the CFO. Interest in the broader business and solid financial and business acumen is critical.
  • Must be a proven leader with superior communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Manage external audits for US GAAP and have a basic understanding of IFRS.
  • Oversee accounting policies and procedures to ensure proper internal and financial controls are being followed at all locations.
  • Continuously develop team in both management and technical skills.
  • Responsible for all company Payroll processing and reporting.
  • Demonstrate continued focus on profit improvement and margin enhancement.
  • Assist the CFO on ad-hoc projects as needed.
  • Manages Payroll Manager, Accounting Manager and Team Members in the Accounting Department.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor (B.A.) or Master (M.A.) degree in Accounting required, MBA encouraged or preferred; minimum ten years of relevant accounting/financial management experience required including General Accounting, Financial Leadership, Audit, Manufacturing Cost Accounting, Treasury, Tax, and Operational Analysis in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both spoken and written word, including voicemail, e-mail, business letters, internal memos and presentations to senior management.
  • Ability to interpret findings and propose solutions that address the basic business issue, while balancing the holistic needs of the business. Out of the box thinking is critical.
  • Advanced-level proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and Office Outlook.  Strong working knowledge of automotive ERP systems is a major plus. UGN has recently moved to Oracle EBS. Knowledge of ERP implementation and Oracle would be a strong plus.
  • Must have strong automotive supply industry and manufacturing systems knowledge. Experience with financial analysis and manufacturing cost standards required.
  • Certificate in Public Accounting (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) preferred.
