UGN’s Response

The Leadership Team continues to monitor the situation with COVID-19. Frankly speaking, we are trying our best to determine next steps in a rapidly changing environment with varying forms of information. We realize we are in uncharted territory and there are many more questions than answers which makes people nervous and unsure. During this time, we will continue to operate with open communication and transparency in keeping with our values of Respect, Trust and Communication.

In determining our next steps, we have considered many factors of how to continue to run the business and support our manufacturing locations. Since the plants operate on different requirements, we will need to address each location differently based on the situation that this virus has caused.

Plant Status

UGN operations and Team Member work schedules will be decided on a case by case basis not in conjunction with customer closures. The plant in which you work will communicate with you the work week schedule (No se considera paro de labores en la planta, por favor acuda a laborar de acuerdo a la programación de su turno).

UGN Procedures for Managing COVID-19 Matters (Revised 03/20/2020)

    General

    1. If a Team Member lives with or has had close or significant contact with a person who has or is suspected of having COVID-19, the Team Member will not be allowed to return to work or visit our facilities until he or she:
      • is cleared by a doctor as not having the COVID-19 virus, or is quarantined for 14 days, or
      • is confirmed as having had the COVID-19 virus and has been cleared by a doctor after being treated and is no longer.

    While at Work

    1. If a Team Member exhibits one or more symptoms of the virus, such as coughing, fever, fatigue, achiness, the Team Member should be instructed to immediately leave the facility and seek medical help. If the Team Member is in a state of distress, we should move him or her to an isolated area, preferably a closed room, and follow established medical distress protocol, such as calling a relative or 911, as appropriate. Human Resources and our First Responders will jointly respond to any situations requiring attention.
    1. The area where the Team Member was working should be isolated to determine the needed procedures to clean and sanitize the area or areas where that Team Member has been – cafeteria, bathroom, production cells, fixtures etc. The area(s) should not be used again until it is determined what, if any, cleaning procedures have been completed.
    1. If the sick Team Member was working in the same area as other Team Members, but not in close proximity, defined as less than 6 feet apart for more than one hour, they should be questioned about how they are feeling. If they are feeling well, they should be allowed to continue working, but if they exhibit any of the symptoms described above, they should be sent home and told to seek medical attention. In such case, Human Resources will check in with these Team Members daily for 14 days on how they are feeling and will take appropriate steps if any of them are exhibiting symptoms of concern. However, if it is determined that they were in close proximity, to the sick Team Member, as defined above, they will be asked to leave and seek medical advice and will not be allowed to return to work until they have been cleared by a doctor. This is a judgement call to be made on a case by case
    1. Team Members in the facility should be told that a person in the general area of where the affected Team Member was working became ill with flu-like symptoms was sent home and advised to seek medical attention. They should be told that if they are feeling ill that they should inform Human Resources, who will tell them to leave the plant and seek medical
    1. Team Members who become ill with flu-like symptoms will be sent home will and advised to seek medical attention. They will not be allowed to return to work without a doctor’s note releasing
    1. In some cases, UGN compensation and /or benefits as well as state or federal benefits may be available. For further information, the Team Member should contact their local Human Resources
    1. If there are any questions regarding the procedures, please contact Tinley Human Resources.
