UGN, a world class manufacturer of acoustic, interior trim, and thermal management products for the Japanese transplant automotive industry in North America, is seeking an Supplier Development Manager to join our team in Tinley Park, Illinois.

Summary

The Supplier Development Manager develops, coordinates and leads Supplier Development and Qualification assuring long term supply at world class performance levels with quality, delivery, cost and service. Assists in new supplier development and manages existing supplier maintenance and continuous improvement activities. Leads supplier development programs for critical suppliers and manages and reports on supplier metrics while working with Commodity Manager(s) to achieve a supply base compliant with ISO/TS16949.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor supplier development activities that align with organizational strategic goals and objectives.
  • Maintain and further develop supplier performance reports.
  • Conduct new and existing vendor audits and assessment to ensure all current and future suppliers meet company requirements.
  • Support purchasing and development teams in supplier cost reduction, VE/VA, and benchmarking activities.
  • Assist in defective part analysis and problem resolution as it pertains to supplier quality.
  • Manage supplier corrective actions during critical non-conformances.
  • Identify supply chain risks and establish gap plans.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct supplier baseline assessments (quality, capability, financial, technical).
  • Ensure supplier development plans are in place and executed to address systemic gaps, trends of poor performance, and/or productivity improvements.
  • Support Purchasing and Plants when needed to assure continuity of supply.
  • Educate and consult suppliers in process excellence concepts and tools.
  • Identify and investigate suppliers for new product development activities.
  • Identify efficiency opportunities utilizing lean manufacturing methods, standard cost modeling, six sigma and other tools.
  • Assure customer quality requirements are adhered to and quality system is maintained.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree (B.S. or B.A.) from accredited four-year college or university.
  • Five to ten years related experience in automotive industry and supplier development and/or quality engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of TPS, APQP, TS16969, DFMEA, PFMEA, Six Sigma, TPS, APQP, ISIR/PPAP/PSR, SPC, 8D, Control plans, and Lean manufacturing principles.
  • APQP and automotive launch experience.
  • Project leadership and successful coordination skills involving multiple functional groups and locations.
  • APICS and ASQ affiliation and certification preferred.
  • Black Belt or CQE certification preferred.
  • Affiliation with Lean Institute or certification in lean techniques and application preferred.
